What do you have with your pbass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah nice mono belray. I don't want an arrowana, they get huge and well I think would compete for food too much.

Wow still undecided. I'll have to think about it.

i keep mine with piranhas.

This won't work long term, more looking for long term options..

If you don't want any competition for food you can always take species like Myleus (red hooks), Metynnis or Mylossoma. I give them spirulina flakes, krill (small), red ml, mysis,... Foods that are to small for my mono. They grow up to 6"-7" and have a disc shaped body.

The others I feed 2 times/day, the crenicichla and mono during daylight, the rays and limas during nightlight otherwise they wont have nothing.

What other species do you like? Maybe we can give our oppinions on them...

Well I picked up a small ray today, and I like the red hook idea. I kinda think that's what I'll end up with ray(s) and red hooks along with the pbass.

The store was out of armored catfish, and large cat's are predators and usually bad attitudes. Advice on how many red hooks to go with?

As far as what species I like, I have many single species tanks of sa/ca cichlids(dovii, umbie, midas) so really just looking for good moderately active fish that will not nip/terrorize my pbass and won't let my pbass eat them. Think nice large community that lives in good harmony with no fighting and good movement.

First of all congrats with you ray, what species is it?

For the Red Hooks, I'd go for a nice group. I have 8 of them toghether with 8 Metynnis Hypsauchen (silver dollar) and they are doing great. I'd say at least 5 or 6 of them. If you want me to take some pics, I'll take them tomorrow.

It's just a retic, I wanted something that wouldn't drain me if something were to happen to it as it's my first ray. I might trade it in for a motoro later. 5-6 wouldn't be bad, I'd appreciate some more pics. My only concern is them ending up as fish food...

Hello Chilaguapote, here I am again,

What size do you PB have? I suggets you buy the Red hooks large enough, even adult size (if possible). Another option could be Myleus Schomburgkii, they grow even larger: +10".

Awesome tank, simply awesome. What size is that tank? That mono is simply awesome.

Thanks for the pics as well, my pbass are 4-5" at this point, 2 monos(my favorite pbass), might try to find one or two azul to throw in there too. I'll have to look into the disk tetra. Also was thinking maybe Chalceus macrolepidotus or pink tail chalceus, they get 10" I believe but can become aggressive to each other.

Thanks Chilagua,

It's a 250g tank. I love a crowded tank, but to have that I needed good filtration, so I have 3 pumps that have about 750g/h capacity toghether (3 times tank capacity).

I'm not realy familiar with Chalceus macrolepidotus. Looks like some freshwater baracuda to me.

Nico

my first pbass was really buddy buddy with a xingu I and a royal GT. they were all the same size and never left each other sides. very odd. there was no aggression whatsoever. they lived together for about 6 months.
