So far.... With the Cincta I got from Spizz... It is working out so far like this...
Pied Nicaraguense female/male reg Nic, and the Pikes The list was larger but I moved a few things for breeding purposes
i keep my sveni with other SA cichlids (psittacus, rotkeil and chocolate), plecos, and some oddballs (indo dat and polys). he hangs out with the indo dat most of everyone
I maybe have one of the strangest combos with my pike due to circumstances -
In my 90g I have:
7" Lepidota
10" Hoplias Mala
8" Carpintis
The pike and the wolf fish have large drain pipes as territory and dont care each other are in the tank, may have helped that they grew up with one another.
The pike hates the Carpintis but they have established terratories so its not an issue. Yet.
My 2 bellycrawlers are in with 4 salvinis (1 breeding pair). As nasty as the sals are, make no mistake, my big female bellycrawler rules the roost. She also keeps things relatively calm between the sals, splitting up fights when they get into it.
My 2 female Johannas share a tank with severums, silver dollars, a jewel cichlid and a small Managuense (he's about 5" now). Even now at close to a year old, the Johannas are still the best of friends and are never out of touching distance of one another. Weirder still, they happily share their driftwood cave with the Manny. There's hell to pay if anyone else gets in their cave, but I think they believe the Manny is a pet.
i really appreciate this thread, b/c i failed twice with 2 lepidotas that I had to separate.
Earlier last year, I managed a peaceful cohabitation of one lepidota with a JD and an oscar. I found that lepidotas and lenticulas eventually ease up on each other as long as there are dithers, plenty of space, and breaks in line of sight within the tank.
I'm curious and will experiment later in the year with crenicichla and my severums- hopefully that will turn out to be successful.
8" Oscar
7" Pleco
4" Jewel Cichlid
2 x 7" Senegals
3" Convict
3" Firemouth
No problems what so ever, the Pike and Oscar are actually pretty buddy buddy except the occasional mouth opening and push by the Oscar because he has little mans syndrome. (1" Smaller than the Pike)
Mine is a voracious eater and hits the surface with serious impact but has never once shown any aggression towards another fish.
I've got a Vene Pike and he is in a 150g with; a Lrg Frontosa, Med Pearsei, Med Midas, Med Lyonsi, Small Syn, Bifa, Gutta, Med Dempsey, and a Redtail Black Shark.
Its fun to watch the Pike anyway cause he takes NO slack from any of them!! Its great!!
i have personally kept my larger pikes from the past with all of the following:
juvie giant snakehead, tt eel, some crazy black and purple cichlid (was sold to my cousin as a mozimbque? and looked sa/ca to me tho) arrowana, oscar, 2 managuense, dogfish, jellycatfish, 4 firemouths, hejuta, and a spotted gar
that was the spam of 3 pikes. 2 of the pikes died and 1 i was holding onto for my brother cuz it was too aggressive. the first pike and my arrowana and tt eel and dogfish and mozimbque died to mercury poisioning becuase the arrowana broke my thermometer. and the other pike died due to choking on feeders.
the managuense beat the piss outta the other one so i gave it back b4 it was too late
oh and with my dwarf compersi ive kept a ctenmpo perch thingy (which became a feeder cuz he bullied my pike) and a balloon ram which disappeared and a panda cory cat. its in a guppy tank with a bunch of breeding guppies and snails. cool thing is it picks the snails up and smashs them and then sucks them outta their shell. pretty wicked.
