What do you keep with your pikes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Blue rams, dwarf acaras (Laetacara sp.), dwarf jewels ... but then I've had the dwarf pikes.

Ironically larger cichlids tend to be a bad idea. I had better luck with the dwarf cichlids than I had medium sized centrals like jacks or a smaller argentea. Both times the centrals had to be removed for starting (and losing) fights with the pikes where the dwarf cichlids had more sense to start fights with the almight (yet small) pikes.

I keep my Ven pike with a ray, pbass, arow, bichirs, dats, servums and fronts.

right now...

m/f lucius: festae, lyonsi, red devil, 5 polys, BGK, flagtail, cons, striped raph
atabapo II/fire: FL gar, 5 polys, dats, jardini, L. pictus cat, lima shovelnose

I keep mine with African Cichlids, Gulper Catfishes, Fire Eels, Rays, Earth Eaters, Red Hooks, Bichirs and my FRTs

Interesting story (at least to me)
Just picked up a Flame Pike last Sunday.
It went to the left corner of the tank, uncertain where to go

The African Cichlids swam up to him and looked at him curiously.
The 2 bigger bullies, the Butti and the Argentea tried to bite him when suddenly my 3 Venz swam out from the driftwood area (right of tank) to chase them away and nudge the Flame Pike to follow them to the driftwood

Anyway, the next morning, I found the Flame Pike chasing the Argentea around the tank. Argentea leaves him alone now though the Butti still tries his luck but Flamey can hold his own :headbang2

2 pikes, jd, ray, 2sd's. Other setup was 1 pike, 2 pacus, marble pim, black aro. Unsuccessful setup was 2 pikes with a jag slightly larger than the pikes. Jag tried to eat one of the pikes. Luckily I happened to be watching at the time, so I was able to pull the pike out and it made a full recovery. The jag is now in a different tank, where she is happily picking on two pacus ten times her size.

My Lents are kept with only a Raphael Catfish and my Venezuelan's are kept with 2 Motoro Rays, Datnoid, Fire Eel, Red snooks, Electric Blue Cichlid, Florida Gar and Comprescips Cichlid.
