What Do You Like About Fishing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have owned a some land that I had a few ponds dug on it and yes I fished them after they was established. I bought most of the fish as fingerlings and got food for them and fed them growing after a 3 years I had some awesome blue gills bigger then your hand and catfish was a few pounds and bass was small but decent sized too. I met a guy that has a good sized pond like 3 acres that he keeps different types of cichlids and breeds them I ain't sure about what species he has but he claims to have good success at it

First off, I love eatting fish but I dont keep anything but crappie or yellow perch but I believe that BASS should be "catch & release".

For me there isnt NOTHING better then fishing!! For the average fishermen(specially the older gneration) fishing is throw your line out and wait, thats BORING. My tactic is fast paced, stick and move where as Im casting back to back. That keeps my attention better and I never use live bait.

Far as the fish dieing after being caught I'll say that, as long as the fish doesnt swallow the hook its a very good chance that it will survive. Bill Dance said the lip of a LMB is all gristle so they dont feel the hook long as thats all its hooked to.

For closure I'll say the question for me should be "what dont I like about fishing" cause I love everything about fishing!!

BTW-I only fish for LMB & Chain Pickeral

~~~~~~FISH MORE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~STRESS LESS~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here we mostly do reef fishing of rocks so you never know what your going to pull up. Thats the super exciting part. Also that feeling you get when you feel the line get tight and the pole starts to bend.
There is nothing better then fighting a big fish. The suspense is intense. You never know whats going to come up. Once i caught a 20 inch channel catfish with a rapala. i thought it was a bass but when it came up....
The same kind of thing with a bass, you dont know how big it is until it finally jumps, then your adrenaline kicks in....
One of the best things about fishing is knowing you have a picture of it when releasing it. you feel soo good.
If catching 15 inch bass isnt fun enough for you then loosen your drag
I ussually dont eat the fish i catch and never eat bass, i think they are too much fun to catch!
I like being outdoors,the scenery,being in the water.But Ive found if I just stand in the resevoir waving a stick the DEC police chase me out.I can do the same thing with a fishing pole and no one bothers me.:)
All fish is game-fish here in Holland and catching and relaesing in a correct way with all nescesary precautions will keep stress at a minimum for the fish.
I allways say, that I won't just sit at the water for days and nights in a row, but when i got my rods and my fishingmate, we do camp and enjoy the sunsets and quiet nights.
Seeing those massive creatures is worth it and catching them is the only way to get a good look.
I'm allways looking at any water and wonder what is swimming there!
Got to say a man after my own heart. I do the same if I’m driving a long and see a lake I have the same thought. It’s that expectation of the dip of the float the pull on the line the ripping noise of that alarm that keeps you going back and with carp fishing you just never know it could be a new personal best. You can never explain it unless you have tried it. Give it a go you may be converted.
one i had last Sunday :)
I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions!
I guess I can see it from your views, what with the "thrill of the hunt" and whatever.
I wasn't being patronizing or anything, just curious.
So do any of you pondkeepers go fishing in your ponds? Or would you?
I was catching fish before I started keeping fish one thing led to another.
Why I like to catch fish? this has been covered by many replys and I say all of the above. As for fishing in my ponds I have fishing ponds for fishing in and fish ponds for keeping fish in, for example my leichardti pond I would never even consider fishing in though they are my favourite fish to fish for in freshwater.
Fishing/ocean related recreation is like my sanctuary. I can just drive down to the beach on my own or with some friends/family and relax for a few hours. Don't gotta worry about the everyday bs or hear any nagging. Catching isn't really that important for me as just being out there, bringing home a fish is a bonus.
