I grew up in a time and place where you didn't go through the local drive thru of the long john silvers. You went to the lake. I no longer fish because it puts food on the table although fresh caught perch is better than anything you'll get that has been prepared and stored.
Now I fish for Big fish and braggin rights. Have a musky smash a top water and you'll learn quickly why I fish.

Growing up we had a pond always stocked with fish. It is relaxing. Plus, lots of outdoor activities (fishing, hunting, animal husbandry) teach lessons that just can't be learned unless you do them. IMO/IME people who hunt/fish/raise livestock/farm or otherwise live off of the land, have a different view of the world than those who don't do those things.

the silence and non stressful sitting and just enjoying the silence and the lack of people and noise and just everyday life.. just you and the water and peace and quite!
I enjoy the intense sun beating down on me to the point that it "bleaches" my hair.
I love the ants biting me because once you take shrimp meat or earthworms out of the cup its like a dinner bell for ants.
The spiky ,pinchy plants that attach to my sneakers and ankle I also relish .
My favorite is when I have walked a mile or 2 away from my car with not a cloud in the sky and it pours for 10 minutes non stop .
So yes like every one else here . I would have to say I find fishing very relaxing .

Everything. When I'm out fishing, nothing else in the world matters. I can focus on the water, on the fish, on baiting my hook, or just chatting with whoever I'm fishing with. Some of my best memories when I get old and gray will be of fishing with my Dad.
sure fish die, but the more hypocritical thing here is the fact that as an animal rights activist you keep a fish in a tiny tank (no matter what you tank size is its nothing compared to the river that fish i supposed to be in).
my favorite part is sitting there staring at the water surface, waiting for a bite. . . you get a lot of thinking time. it's almost like a trucker driving cross country and getting in a lot of windshield time. you get to do some serious thinking . . .
HMM no cell or tv or laptop, just the smell of diesel fumes.. an just a fe good friends. an wait for the reel to be screaming!!
