What do you think about the seat belt laws?

You know what? If you are dumb enough not to wear a seatbelt, you probably deserve what you get.

However, from a realistic standpoint, I don't want to pay higher insurance liability rates because you are too irresponsible to wear your belt.

Oh, and as far as your 190 out of 400 statistic, what are the criteria for the report? If you are traveling over 60 mph, 99 out of 100 probably don't walk away from the accident, and if you are going under 10 mph, 99 or 100 probably do. Numbers can be skewed however you want, but belts save lives. I wouldn't be typing this without a belt and airbag from last summer.

boohooohooo MAYBE YOU SHOULDN"T HAVE WRECKED!!!! and as for those numbers they are the ones from the state of colorado that are supporting seatbelt use!!! I didn't make them up that's ther info. And if you want to get technical its cheaper for your insurance rates If I die. That way there is one payment instead of paying for years of disability for the seatbelt barley keeping you alive!!! Another thing the number 400 is just the people that died. they don't tell you that there was probably close to 10000 accidenst in colorado last year, or how many people weren't wearing their seatbelt in those accidents. So don't tell me that not wearing it makes me less smart than you!!!!

AFTER ALMOST 100 YEARS OF CARS BEING ON THE ROAD,ITS THE LAW? Its a money thing, period. All the kids on a school bus and they dont wear a seat belt??? Cops dont have to wear it. I am not hurting anyone by not wearing it. Its 100x worst to smoke when your kids are in the car, I would think? aND THATS ok

Yup, it's just an easy way to make a quick buck. I'm not saying you shouldnt wear your seatbelt, I'm saying I think the law is crap.

here read this!!!http://www.dot.state.co.us/trafficsafety/SeatBelts/FinalCdotBr.pdf it states that 400 people died in car crashes in colorado last year and out of the 400 if everyone of them was buckled up 190 of the would have lived!! thats less than 50%common sense my ass!!!
Whats worse then people that don't weat their seatbelt is people that argue how its a stupid law. frankly the law was made for dumb asses that think they don't need to wear the belts.

And how can you speak of those statistics so ignorantly?

Some car crashes are just so bad that your going to die. thats that. Some car crashes are not that bad. in the lesser ones you still have a chance of dieing if your ass flys forward into the windsheild and the steering wheel. If you cannot bench press 3500lb I suggest you wear your seatbelt. Thats roughly the force you fly forward with in a 45 mph crash.

190 people living is still 190 people that could still be alive by just setting their seatbelt.
What if one of those 190 could be your child? theres more then just YOUR life at stake. you hit or get hit by someone fly around your car because you wernt latched in kill your children by smashing into them while you fly around your car. OR hit your windsheild get knocked out and no longer able to control your car. then you veer off hit another car still killing everyone in your car and others in other cars. All because you were too stupid to click your belt.
Have you ever tried to control your car from the passenger seat while your car is flying into a ditch? Lemme tell you from personal expearience. Its not fun. And its really ****ty when you have to do it with a shattered hand because thats what you stopped yourself from hitting the passenger side door and window with.

The law isn't just to protect you in your crash. its to protect me from you after your crash.
And to give those in your car every possible chance to get out of a wreck alive.
If you want to argue agasnt the proven statics that belts have saved lives. Sure go ahead.
But if you want to take away peoples chance to walk away well thats where I think people have a problem with your line of thinking.

So what the problem? is the 2 sec of time that it takes to click you belt too much of an inconvience for you? I bet a lifetime of paraylasis would be more so. Or losing your child.

Who the **** said thats ok?! It's funny how people will try and defend their own stupidity by pointing out the stupidity of others and use the excuse.. "Well at least its not as bad as ****" Yeah thats a real good defense.

Well the law BS.In PA you don't have to wear your helmet but you gotta wear your seatbelt :WTF:.Ive been in an accident and thank god i wasnt wearing my seatbelt.

my life and my best friends life were saved by seatbelts in 99 when we got into a head on with a drunk... my cousin died two years ago when the jeep he was riding passenger in flipped and he was thrown because he did not wear hios seatbelt but the driver only suffered a broken arm.... WEAR YOUR @#$%ING SEATBELT unless you have a death wish.........

Just my opinion but if they are going to pass a law saying you have to wear a seat belt cause it can save your life then they should pass laws making cig. illegal. More ppl die from cig. smoke and it's effects then they do from not wearing a seat belt. Just goes to show where the government is getting alittle extra money if the automobile industry would throw some money at the government they would drop the seat belt law like the tobacco industry does to keep in business. If it's truely a free country then I should be able to decide what I do to my own body AS LONG as it doesn't affect anyone else....

Doesn't matter what you compare it with, if your going to be a dumb azz then your going to be a dumb azz. if ya think your cool because you don't have it on then lets see how cool ya are when your laying in a casket :screwy:

I'm not a fan of "big brother" laws like seatbelt laws. However, minors are technically wards of the state as far as the law is concerned. Therefore, IMO, a state should require that people under the age of 18 wear seatbelts. Once you're an adult, it should be a matter of personal preference. However, health insurance companies should be able to jack up your rates or deny coverage if you get injured in a motor vehicle accident while not wearing a seatbelt.

I once got into an accident in an older vehicle without seatbelts. I was very lucky to have been thrown from a vehicle at 65 mph and literally walk away with only minor injuries.
