What do you think about the seat belt laws?

Some laws are there to protect us from our own stupidity.
10 years ago 4 of my friends went for a ride late at night and hit a curve with 2 much speed lost control of the car hit the ditch and rolled 4 times. The only guy that got moved by an ambulance was the driver the other 3 got a ride in the coroners car. The driver was also the only person to were a seatbelt.

i think it should be your choise. but i drive a big truck and they really enhance the view into the ladys cars.
this is such BULL*&$% The point is it would have only saved 190 people period and like I said it doesn't say how many accidents there were!!! And for the rest of your little rant why don't you come up with the most lame excuse for wearing it. Show me a study that shows how many people killed there kids because they weren't wearing a seatbelt then we can talk.. It's not my fault you can't drive with a broken hand from the pass. seat.. SIMPLE FACT IT SHOULD BE MY CHOICE!!!!!!! wear yours I don't care. It's not a macho thing it's a prefference.. Next thing you know My hole truck is going to be illegal because it will kill you in your little import... If you give the Gov. an inch it will take a mile
Umm.. yeah. if you look further into the cases of those 400 you will most likely find a few that passengers were killed by another. Yes your point is that 190 people out of those 400 would still be alive if they had worn their seat belt.
That’s all it needs to say is 45% of the people that don't wear their seatbelt could have lived.
You simply are not accepting that because it dosen't work with your argument. You were hoping to use that statistic as a reason to justify your not wearing a belt. Oops. guess that one backfired on ya.
As for the rest of my rant. No you're obviously too stupid to make intelligent decisions on your own so that right should be taken from you for your own safety.
As to my situation - Actually I was able to regain control of the car from the passenger seat and keep it from rolling over. luckily my head didn't hit anything because if it had and I went to the end of the ditch I'd probably not be here to educate you today.
Sorry bud I'm not having a debate with you. I'm telling you. because like a child that knows no better you need to be told. This is also why it is a LAW and not your choice. because your choice effects others. in a way that could be harmful. and who are you to take away someone’s right to drive safely.

again you critisize my intelligence because of a prefference.. This has nothing to do with being stupid IT'S A CHOICE I MAKE.. I don't need you telling me that your smarter than me because you use a seatbelt.. As for the statistics they just prove my opinion that it does not justify a law. I am not saying that the 190 lives were worthless but they made a choice and that is OUR FREEDOM and left wing people like you think that they can make my mind up for me.. What would you think if your house was burglarized while the cop that should have been there was waisting his time writing a petty seat belt ticket?? I bet you would be pissed.. It's a waste of law enforcment time catching REAL CRIMINALS.. And as I stated before its all for money, they could care less about you dying in a car accident..
im not trying to offend anyone, but in my opinion, even if the statistics say that it saves 1% of people in all crashes, isnt that enough to wear one? sorry, but i value my life, and the lives of the loved ones i drive around, and the completely random people i dont know that i could kill in the process of an accident caused by me, when they dont have their belts on!?!?!?!
its like saying fire escapes are a waste of time, sure they save some people now and again, but in the main, they dont have to be used. i'd rather be given the chance to live than in my last few seconds know "sh*t, thats it for me"

Exactly. I think your all buttwipes for thinking your better than us because we choose not to wear a seat belt. I wear mine sometimes, but for the most part, I feel more comfortable not wearing it.
edit: I always make people that drive with me wear their seatbelt.

If you look at the numbers of people who were killed and put it up against the number of people who were not wearing seat belts and you'll notice that in almost all of the states the number are nearly or exactly the same. People should once in a while stop thinking about themselves and think about others too. Driving is a priveledge not a right given to you. So if they say wear a seatbelt because it'll save yours and other people's lives while driving then you should abide by it or face the consequences.
