What do you think the next fish will be that decreases in popularity and why???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cichlas are dying down, and I bet tiger fish are on their way out too... look at the buy and sell... how many threads with tiger fish are there?

I think hybrids will die down in popularity. That includes both flowerhorns and bloodparrots.
I forsee a lot of LFS staples becoming harder to come buy in the future. Fish like convict cichlids, eventually people won't want them anymore. It would not be the first time an easy to breed/keep cichlid was popular and then practically vanished. Keyholes are one example but seem to be on the rise again.

Personally, I don't care. I mostly keep native fish I find in my backyard. They haven't been, aren't and probably never will be popular. I keep what I like.

FH used to be the fad in Asia a couple of years back, but now it's totally died down..

so arowanas r for sure gonna end soon

Fish that grow large and demanding like Arowana always come and go in 'mainstream' popularity but for those hobbyists/enthusiasts that keep them in the appropriate manner (large tank, well fed, good filtration, appropriate water conditions and proper maintenance) they will never die out.

So it comes down to which popularity you talk about. I'm sure that a lot of people who have Arowana on this site will do so in years to come. But those who buy goldfish for 2 gallon tanks (mainstream fish keepers) wont keep Arowanas after their first one (or two) out grows their 4ft tank.

one thing for sure:
Arowanas will never fade :D
Thats what I am talking about!!!:headbang2

Well my 3 cents...With all the advice given on NOT to use them....I would say goldfish as feeders.

New people get in the hobby all the time...and I will dare say there are many out there that do not even know what arowanas, datnoids, and cichla are. Just like many of us, when they do find out about them they will want and get them.

More and more people are getting into the hobby. :D

good for you. :) here, they went like supermegamainstream around 2000-2002. They kinda saved the hobby here in the Phils., coming in at a time when the petshop business isnt doing very well. Though a lot still have them, their hype has thinned eventually. I'm guessing the same thing happened to the fh industry in countries surrounding us. I might be mistaken...

I still think Aro's and now I agree about Cichla.

Somebody mentioned Gars.... they really aren't very common anywhere in any quantity, so I don't think they are really one of those "hyped up fish" so to speak.
Fancy goldfish are so out of it by now, I think, also.

If convicts were ever going to die down, it would have happened 15 years ago

i think that gars are getting pretty big.....aloto of people seem to be asking about tehm on othere forums i go on
