I think Rays are here to stay!:headbang2 :D

something we missed out on the early part of this thread is the limits to the term 'popular' or what measures the 'popularity' of the fish.

'Pricey'-ness
In general,as marketing basics dictate, something 'popular' tends to be more expensive. the money factor palys a significant role in this discussion since costly fishes tend to be labeled as 'in demand'.

'Prettyness'
Does a fish viewed as pretty by the mainstream market earn the right to be called popular?well, sometimes but not necessarily. Location, species variation, and personal preference are points to consider. this is almost impossible to standardize as different people have different tastes.

The "in" factor
I think this is the term we should have used the first time. Somethin "in" automatically increases its price. Something "in" (gradually or sometimes, suddenly) becomes pretty. Unfortunately, a lot of hobbyists tend to follow trends.

Oscars, ohh no wait out of style, oscars will always be around.

I hope with all my heart that the next fish to drop out of popularity and off the face of the earth is dyed fish, its just plan cruel.

Its obviously going to be a fish that everyone can afford and are i the long run quite unmanagable to someone with out a big tank...

so arowanas r for sure gonna end soon
peacock bass maybe...
gars
i would say snakeheads but since they are illegal in a lot of countries... theyll never lose popularity

bu most of all i think dats will dissapear from the hobby, I mean they dont even look THAT great... i dont get the hype
ill b happy Id rather have me some peacocks... or a nice couple channa plauropthalma...

i think pbass may dip though when they run out of new cichla to sell for a lot of money.

There's so many different species not in the hobby yet that will never really happen.

Alot of what's listed won't end soon as they've been around for years and keep their popularity because of their coolness factor or low price.

I thinks its more about boring personality than tank space.

I'll say Pbass as well. I had a couple for a while and just got bored. Based on the experience that I had I think they'll die down. The hobby will be flooded with big ones in the near future.

haha.. the cichla definitely became a "fad" fish. I appreciate long time
pbass lovers or newcomers that got drawn in to pbass and are learning more and more about it and are actually growing them out. . But no love to the ones that bought them because they were "in" and then got rid of it after a few months.
