personally....
tcn/rtc hybrids, i think they're too much trouble and people will realize how innadaquate they are for aquarium life.

I was going to say RTC, get way too big for most of us

Agreed. Chinese superstition has a lot to do with the popularity of arows (dragons), dats (tigers), bichirs (dragons), fei feng (phoenix), Distichodus sexfasciatus (barred shelter). I don't see that changing in the near future.

I definately agree with icthyophile and redtail, and not because I love these fishes but because of the above stated reasons. Besides I think there will always be a demand for larger dats due to the fact that they are in fact slow growers; and like me I'm not a big fan of waiting for a 1" dat to get to 12+"es that's my .02

i think snakeheads aka CHANNA, who knows tho...

all things illegal seem to remain popular...

did the US have an african cichlid faze, we did over here and i think it has died the death now.
as for tigers no way will they become unpopulari have kept them for years now and still a newb.
tigers have been popular for a long time and will remain so.
i think pbass may dip though when they run out of new cichla to sell for a lot of money.

I remember when odd patterned clown loaches were the fish of the month, since then their hypes died down.

that means more oddball CL for me yey! lol

On a different note, I never follow trends. I just buy fish that I like.

I'll say Pbass as well. I had a couple for a while and just got bored. Based on the experience that I had I think they'll die down. The hobby will be flooded with big ones in the near future.

i've been following this cool thread...
and I'm glad nobody so far has voted for bichirs!:)

IMO,
Dats, might stay longer. (...difficult to breed and therefore hard to saturate its market)
Arros...same as, if not longer than, Dats. These guys are pros.
Flowerhorns already had their share of the limelight but might still retain a solid fanbase.

Good topic; from looking around the lfs' around my area, looks like all discus fish except for the very large ones are deceasing in popularity. Maybe too hard to take care of for the prices they charge?

na discus are well in this day and age

All fish are popular with me and I think they're all fascinating. My collection is purely limited by tankspace and financial constraints. If you think your fish are becoming unpopular ... send them to me! :D
