About the barbels. I wouldn't hold my breath for them to grow normal.
Usually, these are the clear indication of health and treatment before, during life.

Since you live in Asia, I'm sure you know that a arowana with unbalanced barbels means bad luck. Lol.

Oh well, good thing I'm not superstitious!

Try keeping it in a dark tank. Complete darkness, it will straighten the barbels. As it will use the barbels in the dark more, than the eyes.

No worries.
You have some blacks right?
What do these guys max out at?
I know it wont get to the size my Silver will grow to, but are we talking 26" ish?

Also, the barbels on my black are quite small and curled downwards a little. Will this change now with proper care?
I have a feeling the previous owner had this guy in a pretty cramped tank.

There have been a couple people here with 30"ers and Hao posted a 33"er not too long ago. My two blacks are 26"(4 years old) and 23"(18 months old). The black with equal length to the silver will be about half the bulk of the silver aro.

Far as barbels go, there are alot of suggested remedies. I personally have no experience with any of them.
