They work for me. Ugly, but they work.

:banhim: just messin, they are pretty ugly I agree but you can do alot with them if you want to. This is my 125 gallon growout.. Not a show stopping tank by any means but beats barebottom and pirate bubblers any day.

what problems did you hear about??? i never had or heard of any problems.

i think they're easy to cut too. just use a tile blade in your saw and do it outside because of the dust.

or you can "tap" a hole in the side if you want to go that way instead of laying it on it's side. use a light hammer or the butt of a screwdriver and lightly tap the same spot until it gives out, then tap away at the edges of the hole til it's the shape/size you want it. have patience and don't tap too hard or you'll shatter the pot.

i've notice my fish prefer the pots with a hole in the side over the cut in half pots.

here's a pic of what i'm talking about

really!? haha, thanks!

i like the tiles, pots and fish but it could use a lot of prettying up. i guess it's pretty in a utilitarian sort of way! it's in my filthy office/spare bedroom, perhaps one day i'll get around to making it beautiful in the traditional sense.

Let me get this straight though, the ones at Home Depot aren't safe?

Because i notice when I break them up, there is some black spects in the orange? what is the black stuff?

i use the ones from home depot. i have them in my bolivian ram tank for about 4 yrs now with no issued. As long as they are not painted you should be fine.

Never broke them up so i dont know what the black spects are.

terra cotta pots look brilliant in natural looking aquariums especially when they have algea growing on them

Black Specks are death crystals...don't eat them.

Pots are fine. I use them, most of my fish still alive...although I did have a Betta drown in one...

The kind one would buy at Home Depot? I'm assuming they are safe correct?

I ask because someone raised a point in another post, and I wasn't clear either way.

Can anyone help me out, because I was just going to go buy a couple large ones.

Thanks.

Uh, don't you have like over 15 years in this hobby?
