Hey guys,
Wanted to know what everyone uses to treat internal parasites? I have tried a couple different methods...

I feed my Rays Bay scallops raw and cut up, scallops being very rubbery its hard to get the meds to soak into them so i have been using API general cure and seachem focus to get it to bind. then I tried Metro+ with seachem focus now if they taste the meds at all they will just chew up the scallops and not actually eat them....

Also i am trying to just soak the scallops in Prazipro liquid but im not sure that it is working....

Any advice from guys that have had to treat rays before is great thanks !!

Steve, don't soak just do full cycle of prazi twice with a 4 day break in between cycles. What's up? You thinking something from the Discus?

Yeah i think so, i noticed the other day that there was a big white stringy poop, its transparent with a white line threw it and its curly.... :(

they are both still really active and they still eat like horses and they have grown at a great rate but it still kinda scares me...
so just do a giant water change and dose the whole tank with prazipro for too full cycles ? bad news is i am going away to Quebec City on saturday morning till monday night

Aside from praziquatel in the water column you can try soaking pellets in a cup water with a teaspoon of Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate no additives) this will clear their bowels and kill many protozoa including hexamita (not really a known ray parasite but common in discus) I've also had this clear gas bubbles that rays can get near their rears like they're pregnant on one side.
This works as well as metronidazole on hex and it's safer. Metronidazole only works well internally. Adding it to the water column is a waste especially in a large Ray system as it's unstable. If you want to use metro always try to feed internally by soaking or injecting with hypodermic into foods.
Dimilin aka diflubenzuron is for fish lice and anchor worms. Praziquantel won't touch these parasites. This med isn't needed much anymore as most rays are captive bred these days and imports are generally treated at collection or soon after.

Nitrofurazone is an amazing Ray medication. Doesn't kill bio and treats external fungus and bacterial infections in rays. The very common Ray killer disc rot, cotton patches, and necrosis can be treated with this med. Stains water yellow and must be dissolved in hot water before adding, but I always keep this med handy I've seen it repeatedly save rays and some very expensive pleco colonies.

I have experienced a gas bubble before on one of my rays. It seemed to just work it's self away quick. Have you had this before where it didn't seem to go away on its own?

I've had a Ray so bad he was buoyant. He would swim to the bottom and suction there ( I'm Barebottom) only to float upward. over and over up and down he got really stressed and the bump got large. He quit eating regularly after a few days. I treated the water with Epsom salts and fed the colony Epsom soaked pellets. They all cleared their bowels and made a mess, he farted his bubbles out and returned to normal.
Not sure if he would have just been fine or not. But decided to take action.

Dieselhybrid Dieselhybrid , please... could you give me the exact composition/ingredients in the praziquatel that you guys use
I am trying to find some in South Africa but sometimes the composition of certain medicines changes slightly from country to Country so just want to make sure that it is the same here
