What eats algae?...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
amano shrimp are awesome but, yeah most likely fish food LOL

Erm I would go with an oto mine is always stuck to the glass eating away at something. They are fairly small, fairly cheap, and should be quick enough to get away from the monsters. (maybe?)

I have 2 cory cats in with my albino poly but he is only the size of my pinky still a wee thing ;)

yeah otos are always busy working. i just dont think theyll last too long in a tank full of predatory fish

What about a Bristlenose Plecostomus? I hear they get along with monster fish and won't eat the slime coat. I do not know personally just have read this.

most plecos arent that good at cleaning algae in my experience. they get lazy after a while. and i dont think there's any living thing that will consume cyanobacteria (BGA / blue green aglae). have you smelled that stuff?

and for cladophora / hair algae. that stuff is satanic. its the algae from hell. its very hard to get rid of once it takes hold in your tank.

if you have cladophora, squirt it with hydrogen peroxide everyday for about 3-4 days. it will dry up and die in no time. it wont solve the problem permanently, but its a good temporary solution

No I have no smelled it. I only had an algae problem once and that was when I was learning about properly cycling a tank. Apparently I did too much of a WC and threw the tank off balance and ended up with all kinds of algae. Only thing that worked for me was a Chinese Algae Eater but he got big and started picking on my fish. And my recent mustard algae bloom but a WC fixed that. Not trying to get off topic here.

I seriously hope you can get your algae problem under control. I can't think of anything else other than to manually clean it?

To whoever posted it, the thing called algae eaters eat fish body slime - very little algae,

Thanks everybody, looks like i'm getting a few new otto's! I will watch to make sure they don't get picked on, it shouldn't be a problem.

yeah algae is pretty easy to deal with when you dont have plants. its get much more complicated in a planted tank where any little imbalance will cause an algae explosion
