  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive had oscars take over tanks. Had a yellow acara that was a s.o.b anf these are mild mannered compared to somw of the fish mentioned. I had zonatus snap at 6 inches and beat up on a much larger pearsei

I've had my 180 gallon set up with fish for about a month now. Right now I have

A tiger Oscar
A jack Dempsey
A green terror(most likely a gold saum)
A gold sevrum
A convict cichlid
A featherfin catfish

All the fish are juveniles and get along great

I'm thinking maybe one more large Oscar sized cichlid (maybe a pearsi or a chocolate cichlid) and a few smaller cichlids and ayhe a few dither fish would be OK and a common pleco. What are your thoughts on it? Also if you have any ideas for some cool fish that would go well in my tank I open to suggestions.

Mate, my ~180G is almost identical to yours, stocked with CA/SA semi-aggro species that I am raising from juvies so that they hopefully get along well:

- Gold severum 8"
- Red tiger oscar 4"
- Green terror (gold edged rivulatus) 4"
- Electric blue acara 4"
- Electric blue JD 4"
- Ellioti cichlid 4"
- Threadfin "heckelii" acara 4"
- Snakehead gudgeon (giuris margaritacea, one of our aussie natives) 10", adult, total pussycat.

Based on eventual adult sizes I am 100% stocked on aqadvisor.

I actually also had a featherfin catfish that unfortunately died of ich.
I was also thinking at some stage of getting a convict pair in a 40G breeder to produce a steady supply of healthy feeders.

So I basically have the same fish and tank as you LOL plus an electric blue acara, firemouth variant (ellioti), and heckelii which could be those medium cichlids you were thinking about adding but may be a bit too tame for your tank which is a bit more aggro than mine. I personally think you're on the money with a single salvini based on the reasons you gave and I was actually thinking of adding one to my tank but worried that it would bully my 3 relatively peaceful medium cichlids to death. You won't have that problem because all of yours can defend themselves. The salvini markings also round out the colours and contrast with the other fish you have. Plus single salvinis aren't nearly as aggressive as a mating pair and should be ok IMHO.

I worked at a pet store. I've heard most sad fish stories several times over. From beginning to end. How big is your tank?

Great you work at a pet store what does that even imply? I only know one person who is somewhat knowledgeable from a pet store. And I have been in the hobby for 16+ years.

You are right it is embarrassing. I keep all my fishes in a Top fin 10 gallon tank.

In 180g a salvini will not attack everything lol. I've never had any aggression issues in my 150g. IMO salvinis have gained a bad reputation because many people keep them in 30-50g tanks. Only breeding pairs really get nasty.
I'll tell that to the insane salvinis Ive kept in the past.
