What endli have external gills?

it makes me want to experiment over aerate a tank and under aerate to see which if any grow external gills

They dont grow external gills, they are born with them and loose them as they age. Bigger Polys with External gills is suppos due to a lot of aeration in the tank

All baby bichirs and ropefish have them. when they go away depends on various factors - species, genes, water quality etc - but sooner or later they will go away as the bichirs grow.

haha i think what you meant was try to delay the inevitable no amount of effort will allow you to preserve those external gills forever, but it'd be cool to try to preserve them for as long as possible.
