what filters to use on 6x2x2 stingray tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think although the FX5 is a better filter you would be better with 2 of the allpondsolutions - i find it's always better to have the back up plan where as if the FX5 goes kaput then it's trouble.

My second hand Fx5 cost me £100 - my second hand APS 2000 EF with UV or what ever the model is called cost me £30, i have to say the clear hose you use on them is dreadfully shocking, if it bends it restricts so much flow, i liked the spray bar however.

I don't mean to be funny, but personally a 6' tank with just 1 ray sounds dreadful, is that really all you'll keep?

New aps2000 ef with uvs are 85 pounds I believe, that's why I asked about them (,: How many rays am I able to keep in it do you think? I'd preffer to have 1 ray that's really happy and healthy then 10 rays that arnt happy or healthy, But please advise me any many I could have and still have good water quality? Again thanks for all the info guys I really appreicate it and I'm sure my ray will to (:

Retics are a very difficult ray to keep. They are small. What other reason did you pick them? Because they are the only ray that fits your tank?

I'm probably only going to have 1 ray, or could I have more? I don't wanna get my hopes up on having loads of rays cause I realise that isn't realistic, I'm planning on keeping retic's (:

Retics are one of them rays that people think are good starter rays coz of price you can pick them up but most are very fussy eaters and differcult to keep, a 6x2x2 does limit you very much on what rays you can keep for any length of time. For me the eheim or fx5 are a better option for you. For me it would be a bit of a waste having that tank with just one retic in it.

Well it started when I seen some Motoro's at my lfs, I fell in love with rays there and then. I done some reasearch and quickly found out that motoro's tend to get to big for a 6x2x2, I looked for smaller rays and looked into retics and yeah.. Many months later here I am ((: I've read that retics are but I'm willing to pull all my time and effort into it a a ray, exspecially one that I'm able to keep for its whole life! (:

I know there ment to be a fairly hard to keep ray but I'm willing to put time and effort into it as I do with my tanks I have already, How many retics do you think I could have in a 6x2x2? As I said earlier I'd preffer to have a happy ray and a boring tank then a unhappy ray and a tank that is unsuitable if you get me? (:

for further research i would recommend wet web media as well as other websites and browsing Threads on this and other forums

Rays are extremely heavy polluters. I'd highly recommended big big big filtration. They like lots of turn over and physical media you can clean easy and very often. I'd drill the back do a bean animal overflow and a sump. I've drilled plenty of oldet tanks in the back np issues
