What Fish are we allowed to "Keep" ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
16' x 8' x 4'. Sighhh... Last night my wife surprised me when she told some friends of ours that maybe we should sell and move out of state, buy a new property and build a house and I can have that 2000 gallon dream tank I want. Tonight I'll bring up the subject again only grow a 4000 g tank. One thing that might have tipped her is some photos her best friend showed to us yesterday. In them, her friend was standing in front of Cabella's aquarium in KC and behind her is like a 4' Channel Cat. and some monster bass.
As for what fish I can keep, I can keep anything I want as long as I am discreet, covert, sneaky, secretive...

You can keep anything you want but I think people need to be reponsable. Fish are living things, if you cannot meet that living thing's requirement you have no buisness owning it. Some fish IMO are out of the question. Iridesent sharks, arapaima etc.

Sandtiger, if you had a 24'x36'x4' indoor pond wouldn't you be tempted?

I agree that people need to be more responsible, and that most people are very irresponsible. But I do not believe that there are any fish that are out of the question. If someone can provide a tank similar to the manatee aquarium at Sea World of San Diego, then they should be allowed to keep arapaimas as they have more than enough room in that tank.

depends on the size of the tank. i think its like 1 inch of fish for every gallon, or something like that

so I can have a 300" fish in a 300g...................lol (sorry just had to say it)

Thats cool with me. By irridescent shark , which one do you mean?
I get sick when everything gets "Too Big " arowanas, rays, frts...
i understand that they do get big, but with the proper tank , then can be housed properly. Also , som fishes max size in home aquaria is usually not as big as in the wild. This can be debated till the cows come home but it is usually the case.

To get an arapaima? Not really actually, there are other fish I would rather have. I would sooner make it a SW tank and stock it with sharks.

I think that goes without saying. I am talking in terms of the average hobbiest...knowone here has a tank large enough to own an arapaima. Hell...with the right sized tank you could own a blue whale.

Redtailfool...by Iridecent shark I am talking about the one we constantly see being sold at Wal-mart, Petco, PetSmart etc. Pangasius sp.

Cool, I wonder how big a tank you would need for a blue whale, also how much a semi load of live krill would cost each day?
