what fish can live in the same tank as breeding apistogramma?

im familiar i was just curious how well the apistos would guard their eggs and if itd be effective to guard off such a shy fish. all of my large cichlids always raise their fry to adulthood or atleast dont eat them once theyre past the fry stage but i just leave them in their because im not looking to sell them or keep them but they usually make it to adulthood. so all apistos are equally bad parents in your opinion? i was thinking id do borelli or cacatuoides if it makes a difference in parenting.

The Apistogramma are very defensive and remind of the Convict when protecting eggs, wriggler's, or fry.

I agree,
I don't think of Apistos as generally any worse or better parents than any other cichlids, once they get the gist of breeding.
Adding any other fish, such as a Pleco, or even smallish tetras, is asking to have fry numbers reduced. The Plecos are egg and wriggler predators, and tetras are very efficient free swimming fry predators.
