My biggest female retic regularly gets her share of feeder fish from the gar, she will stalk and pounce and I've watched the male and other female now trying. But they have never bothered their tank-mates. atm are 6 gar. 2 flg, 1cbg, 3 lng's, and a 2' m dayii spiney eel. I do beleiev apart of that is dumb luck, but also they are getting smaller fish to eat so don't bother the big guys.
I know it's been debated why gar will all of a sudden kill tank-mates and just eat the heads... imo its from a lack of something we aren't providing in their normal diets. my guys eat peices of smelt ect left from the gar all the time as well so i'm not surprized they tag feeders as well.
