the cubans here don't seem to be aggressive?

a shoal of spotted/florida gar is always a sight to behold:)

i was going to ask about that. does it seem to get along with the others?

i agree...a nice group of florida/spotteds is awesome to watch. i never get bored with mine.

give it time, ALL the Cubans i have ever kept were quite aggressive. remember most of the time you've had yours it was on the brink of dying off (to put it dramatically) and so it likely hasn't really settled in just yet either.

now that spring is coming up my crocodile gar is going pretty crazy and has turned into the most aggressive gar i've kept in a long time, but before that time it was definitely the Cubans who were consistently quite aggressive. all of this doesn't include gator gars, 17"+ individuals (and often even smaller) are very likely the most aggressive of all the species--

my gators been a bit of a monster recently, but he picks oponents badly... :screwy: bowfin dam near killed him, as did 16" endi.... luckly my fish dont seem to hold a grudge and will only defend when attacked so he seems to get that if he behaves he dont die... just means ill have to relocate him soon than i thought but its under control... :naughty:

its a well documented fact i cant spell..... :D

My Cubans are no where near adults and have successfully shredded every fish in the tank with them without thinking twice about it.

So far they have taken the fins off of Delhezi,Tropicals, Spotteds, Florida, and Shortnosed.. Should be interesting when they get introduced to the Gator...

I would not call them not aggressive....They do not have the absolute wacked psycho attitude of Crocs, shortnosed or gators but are nothing to sneeze at either.

haha xander's in for fun..... least i can seperate the gator in a week, slowly drop its temp and start working on its pool/pond/indoor lake as my mum keeps referring to it as. i sense heavy sarcasm but no plans to stop it happening!

may not get away with going 12' right away, mainly because of running costs, and koi ponds are cheap compare to tanks so when time comes upgrade. It will be handy to have more of them if i do a gar or bowfin breeding project i so desperately want to try, speaking of which, poly: ill email you for those papers in the next couple of days if thats still ok....

Oh yeah still perfectly fine Erm, just let me know what you want and I'll zip them up together and get them to you.. Meant to also tell you the fish are looking very nice. Gator, Spotted/ Florida's and the bowfin all look very good.. Getting that Gator in a big pond will help a lot to keep the peace...Nasty habit of a gator is they do not learn lessons well. They tend to keep testing things and sometime get down right OCD about attacking something. Once they get in this "I want it" mindset all hell breaks loose and there is nothing stopping it.

ive been getting that impression.... thou he seems to no his place for the min. on the pond subject, what would be a nice first step size wise, space is not the issue, the room is there for a 12' but cant really justify it if say 6, 7 or 8' round would work for a good while, then step up when needed..? is that sensible? or go straight for the big one?

as for the papers, im not sure. certainly i'd like to learn as much as possible, in particular on the whole breeding process...

thanks its much appreciated!
