My science teacher gave me two baby guppies, i stuck them in a large bowl and bought a commmon pleco and 2 neon tetras, it all took off from there.... i have been addicted since then. Now thanks to MFK they have me hooked on polys and dats!!!

My dad said I couldn't get another reptile, but then he said I could get fish. I was originally crushed, but then I realized that fish are way cooler. (I used to have an iguana, and my parents really hated the stench.)

when I was 9, thirty some years ago, my dad had a 29 gallon tank with an oscar, thing would eat anything. He was set up high on a hutch and my aunt had to come over and fish sit once and the oscar jumped out of the tank when she went to feed it and landed on the ground. She freaked out and called my dad screaming what should she do......put it back in the dam tank my dad yelled at her. Well that fish took a beating and kept on ticking for years after that. I couldn't wait to have my own oscar tank after that and have had many in the years that passed. It's a great hobby that I hope my kids will take the same interest in that I have.

Im 13 and keep fish :D

I'm 14 :D

I was always into reptiles, but the only one I ever owned was a turtle. I always begged my parents to let me get a leopard gecko or bearded dragon, they always refused. I lost that battle after a few years and was really pissed. My dad said I could keep fish, so I got a 2g and a betta. 14 months later I have 135 gallons running, I'm planning more tanks :D

Long story short: Used to do every drug under the sun. Checked myself into rehab. Needed something to do to keep me occupied. This hobby's kept me clean for 5 years.

Awesome long story short.

As a kid, I practically lived at all the local creeks, streams, and ponds. I wanted to be able to bring specimens I caught back home so I could watch their daily activities in their own mini-ecosystems. That eventually evolved into keeping fish bought at the LFS then, @ 13 (mid-80's) I set up my first saltwater aquarium. I was mainly interested in predators (groupers, morays, triggers, etc.). A few years later I sold all my stuff to go off to college. Fast forward 20+ years and I'm slowly getting back into the hobby.

My dad had a saltwater and freshwater tank when I was young. I was fascinated by them and have been hooked ever since. Now the cycle has come full circle. I have 2 tanks and my dad wants to start his own. Kinda funny if you ask me.
