What got you into fish?

A local fish store called "Stricly Fish" on Harbor Blvd where all the hookers are in Garden Grove, Orange County. I always loved fish and this place was the first fish store I went into when I was 10 and I have had fish since.

had a 20 gallon tank 10 years ago hell might be 15. well got rid of it than my friend died and bought a tank and just went on from there that was 3 years ago

had a girl freind whose dad had a giant oscar tank about ten years ago,he gave me my first tank(45 gallon)and i have been hooked ever since.

Somewhere around 1979 or 80, my mom had a tank of goldfish. I would stare at the tank spotting all the babies. That sparked the interest. Then a science teacher at my job gave me a 30gal. about ten years ago. That got me back in to it. Funny, I thought that 30gal. was a huge tank then! I currently have a 120 and I'm still unsatisfied! I love this hobby!

A 10 cent feeder goldfish i got as a kid, after a fair goldfish died.. Then It got a buddy and soo on untill i got a pond. Then the empty tank got filled ,all empty tanks get filled lol

Long story short: Used to do every drug under the sun. Checked myself into rehab. Needed something to do to keep me occupied. This hobby's kept me clean for 5 years.
:headbang2 congrats on the 5 years almost there myself.

i think my fish obsession started with going to my uncles house when i was very young at a guess like 4 or 5 or something. seeing his tank which i think was tropical and thinking it was pretty cool. so i did the usual thing and annoyed my mum till i got one an old one off my uncle. it was an old classic then and its vantage now. its completely steel framed 12 inch by 14 inch high by 28 inch long. and get this, putty seals. with strange frosted glass bottom.

i actually know the guy (john) that made this tank sometime ages ago apparently that's how they made them then. he's since retired obviously. he still drops into the shop to grab the odd thing every once in a while.

anyway the next big thing in my aquarium hobby, was getting a job at my local fish shop. i was in there quite a bit and eventually was asked if i wanted to clean tanks for money. so i did and started my job there at 11 or 12. and have been working there for 8 or 9 years now, as im 20. and can still stare at a fish tank for hours and hours and still answer the questions customers ask me with the same enthusiasm I've always had.

my next move is a marine biology degree, hopefully. as my uncle is a marine biologist, i can't see myself doing anything else.

i know people who don't have a hobby or passion for anything, and they are usually unhappy people.

some really interesting stories here and now i will tell you mine.

my dad has been keping fish for about 20 odd years and then it was continued by my sister and now finally me. to be honest i got into this hobby a year ago and was really inspired by crayfish that i watched on youtube. so i got me a 30g and got a few fish and a crayfish.... which was going well for a while until i learnt about cichlids and boy has this cichlid keeping thing got me addicted. later on i bought me a 120 and im still not satisfied. i need a bigger tank........:nilly: and more cichlids.....:nilly:
