What happened to ]v[FK?

I been here off and on for awhile now and things just keep changing. When I first joined it seemed that most people here really wanted to help. Questions got answered with well thought out responses that were truly intended to help a fellow hobbyist. If you posted a pic responses would pour in from people either complimenting you or telling you how to improve your skills or questions about your stock. I love this site they're are so many kick *** people here who really know what they're doing have amazing stock and are always willing to help. However lately I've been saddened to see things changing for the worst. It seems like the majority of responses are between friends now and those that aren't are usually flaming or telling somebody to use google or the search function. Alot of people seem to respond selfishly either to stroke their own ego or to have someone stroke it for them. I don't know at least that's the vibe I've been getting lately. Am I wrong am I the only one who feels like this. I'm not saying it's everyone, cause they're still are members who totally rock and love to help just for the love of the hobby, but the tone in general seems to be changing. Those who do help I applaud you and thank you. However that doesn't seem to be the majority anymore or am I wrong?

i did notice it went through a bad patch at one point but most of the ppl asking were trolls which then put most of us on edge. but they were banned and all is good.

i think most the ones that say do the search option is because there is already 4 threads on the same subject.

iv been on worse forums. the rep thread i used was awful. i had to stop using it. ppl would actually say they were going to come beat u up and stuff.
one person actually got death threats and it got turned over to the police.

Forums like this one go through cycles. People join/leave the hobby, people get tired of posting, people get sick, people lose interest. Part of it too is that sometimes everything that can be said about a particular topic has been said.

My sense has been that there is less flaming than there was when I first joined. Yes, there could be less BS posts but if mods become too strict, members will stop being members. I do think a lot of members are afraid to speak up because flaming still occurs. It's hard to stop it after the fact.

You commented with a similar post on one of the threads where I said there is an MFK search on the side of the page. The OP asked a broad question about the general care of ctenopoma, there are already a handful of threads similar to the OP's asking about the care of ctenopomas. Where he would be given more information then just the 8 post of people's experience keeping them. People just don't take advantage of the search function.

True, maybe I'm just nostalgic and you know everything looks better in hind sight. Except ex-girlfriends. Lol! Don't get me wrong though this is still the best friggin site ever. Just been disapointed I saw like three threads that said use the search or google the other day just made me mad. Things change too and some threads just didn't answer the questions the first time. Hence I've even asked a repeat question cause using the search proved fruitless. Like Scombs and the sudden death thing, I'm sure they're exceptions to the rule and if anyones kept one succesfully it's a member of MFK. Hence the question get's asked again and again since there's no informative response. Chloe your one of the good ones and beautiful to boot always appreciate your responses. Chaitika you rock as well the moderators in general are awesome as well as moderating you often find time to respond to threads as well I really appreciate that.

The search function is used extensively and is very handy, but a lot of members simply want to start their own threads. They want to talk to people and they want to engage that way. Signing on to only read stuff works for a lot of people, but for some it's kind of boring and not the reason they join the forum.

Good point, guess I didn't see it from that perspective.

Definetly plus sometimes in a live discussion things occur to people that didn't before or they have more experience now and the same question may get answered differently. MFK isn't just a data base as far as I know it's a forum. In forums people discuss not search, planetcatfish is a data base hence they're really aren't any posts. To me that's the difference that makes MFK so great.

Yea I've noticed this too and I've been here for a long time. A lot of members seem to just bash instead of give constructive critizism which is why I don't like to post much right now. Plus I think a lot of people are just putting a lot of bs threads on here just to boost their post count. I hope it changes soon

Being part of this forum is not all that different from being a part of our own communities and adapting. We can't let the dingbats and flamers ruin our fun or stop us from doing what we want to do! It also helps us develop tolerance and assertiveness which are really important, otherwise we'll pull our hair out and die at a young age from stress-related issues.
