What happens to all the motoro sold world wide

Millions of motoro pups are sold world wide but we don't see many full grown adults

When you think about it we don't ever see many rays above the 20 inch disk mark which a lot of types can grow to

Do loads die when new keepers step into rays I can see this being the case with cheaper rays like motoro retic or hystrix

But what happens to the more expensive rays like bd

If you started a thread to ask people to show the largest I don't think you would get many over 16inch with the exception to the one breeders have

I have not bred many pups myself only about 16 and I know were all of them are or what happened to them I just wondered if other breeders keep track of there pups

Maybe it's just rare for them to get larger. local motoro at aquarium here is about 16-18 inches. I know what you mean my friend has a few that are about 14-16 but that's it for now. I don't know how old they are. What's the oldest ray someone has?

sadly i dont think a lot of them make it... look at how many threads are out there " is this tank big enough" i think a lot people cram them and they never get to reach there potential... i have a few 16+inchers and i dont see an end to their growth lol... my big female motoro just keeps on going!!!

Aquatics unlimited in Milwaukee Wisconsin "my lfs"
Has a female breeder in a 5000 gal tank and she is at least 30" inches I wouldn't be shy to say a solid 36"

I'm pretty sure for sale as well $700 if I remember

interesting.. one here at a lfs thats got a huge disk.. easily trashcan lid size... just a regular motoro but she is the largest i have seen in person ever. seeing her made me not get one... and when working at a lfs i have seen as many motoros as retics sell... most the owners after a few months stopped mentioning them or coming in for food... coworkers always said 55s where fine for them. lol i remember getting into a pretty heated argument after hours with them. so on the lfs, not the breeder end of things i would be surprized if even 10% make it to maturity... let alone live a full life.

edit- same ray your talking anout... she huge iir shes like 15 or more... i asked about her once. they did have a huge male with her at one point, but either he sold or the owner took him home.

I agree that a lot of them probably die but also there are a lot of ray keepers out there that do not get on the internet. It is easy to think that if it is not on MFK or some of the other sites then it does not exist but I would bet 2/3 of rays keepers just do not broadcast it.

It seams to me your making an assumption that all ray keepers should be on a forum sharing their pictures and knowledge. I know this isn't the case. One guy I know has many different rays that he's had for probably 25 years and has never been on any forum. I kept them for 4 years before I ever heard of this or any forum. I'm sure there is a lot more rays out there then we all think there is.

also very true i know of quite a few people that dont share on the internet

You could ask the same question about any type of fish.Where are alll the oscars, arrow's,frontosa, etc, etc, etc. They are mostly dead.I've kept several individual fish alive for as long as 30+ years but most people think 2-3 years is a long time to keep a fish. I worked at a fish store some years back and many customers came in monthly to restock their near empty tanks. If it were not for all the people killing fish we would be up to our necks in them.

Having run a fish shop I can see this is the sad truth, people just think that fish die very quickly. I had a fairground goldfish for 17 years before a friends cat ate it that was lodging with us...most people think they are some special strain of goldfish that die weeks later. The nitrogen cycle is sadly not known to most and peoples logic suggest that when a fish looks sick you offer it food. Most people see my tanks and say that's huge....how do you clean it out!
