What Is A Good Clean Up Crew For A GSP?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i was getting ghost shrimp one day and the sales person at the LFS added a small hermit crab by accident into the bag and didnt feel like taking it out so i got it for free. he has lived for close to a year with my puffers, he even switched shells without the puffer noticing. but every once in a while my GSP must notice him and try to take him out, but hes never successful at taking him out. i always find the hermit crab on his back but still alive.

I love plecos & have many species--could even call me a collector. They are strictly FW.

ghost shrimp might work... they work for my lep... because they're too fast. It's just about getting them (to float) to the ground or else they'l get munched on. That's what happended to a few of my GS

I am trying Ghost Shrimp now. I have had them in the tank for two months and have taken them from pure fress water to a sp of 1.004 to now a sp of 1.006 and climbing 0.002 each week. I don't know how much salt they can take and I can't seem to find anyone that has tryed to take them to a low marine/high bracish system before. The puffer should have eate them when they where young but dident. All 6 g/s are still alive and doing great!
Time will only tell about the end.:naughty:

I'd get a bunch of snails and ghost shrimp-a bunch-and replace them every so often when the Puffer eats them. That way he's got snacks all the time plus you've got a great clean up crew until he manages to eat them all.

I would have never thought of that one, "mollies". My wife has been wanting some of those for awhile now. Personally I don't like mollies. Burnt out on them when still living with my folks. But that's an idea.
My Puffer is a very messy eater!:barf:

it is win win...your wife is happy then you could get more fish...the mollies could breed for the puffers to have a treat now and then...to top it all off they will eat the scraps...you could even call that a trip win...i know of some people that have mollies in a full marine tank...for the record i dislike mollies myself...for the task you need they fit the job and thats the only time i will ever get any again...

No plecos please! Mollies got eaten my my GSPs but yours might be nicer.

they are cheap and get the job done...if they get eatten, just get some more...if you get enough of them they could spawn and give the puffers a treat...

i dislike gs' they cloud the water when they shed and don't eat enough to count for anything...unless you have masses of them, but thats were the cloudyness comes in...

So it sounds like I will take the wife this weekend to pet-stupid and let her pick out some Mollies, yea..............;).........there could be one more win in this for me............ :naughty:
