What is a good diet for discus.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ya what I do is submerge it and shake it around before I release it. One pinch at a time

Le me know if that doesn't make sense and I'll try and describe it a little better

Beefheart is crap. Skip that. It's included in Hikari Discus food but the fish tend to ingore it and spit it out. Not to mention all the talk about how it's the wrong type of meat protein for most fish.

Bloodworms, brine, mysis, pellets, live brine, daphnia.

What name brand do you use? I'll check to see if petsmart has it

Mysis

I'm not necessarily saying you should order from them. Even though everyone says they're cheaper, not cheaper then around here. But it's an idea.

Daphnia

Yea looks alot cheaper then petsmart if I order alot. Shipping takes 7 days. Does that mess up the frozen food you order?

Bloodworms seem good. There full of protien and there good for fish.

Saying Bloodworms is a good diet for discus, is like saying Salad is a good diet for humans.

Sure, it has benifical nutrients but it lacks so many others. Just like a human could not survive eating two salads a day forever, a fish on a diet that consists solely of bloodworms would still cause malnutrition longterm.

A good discus diet is something with good variety and a balance of nutrients. So this is either a formulated dry food or a collection of base foods.

Bloodworms work wonders for picky discus though!
