Majesticmatt thats coming from a person that actually kept the fish (ebjd) if your gonna do an oscar do for a reg jd. I would stick with all ca or all sa cichlids. Wish i would have atarted my tanks thst way instead of mixing the two

I got a few EBJD I got right at 01/01/15 @ 1" size...close to 5 months later the biggest one around 3.5" and all others are 2.5" some are smaller, so if you get 2" Oscar and after 5 months it will likely hit 6 or 7+ inches. It doesn't matter how you try to organize feeding between them the Oscar will out grow EBJD like nothing....

So you get a 3 inch ebjd and a 1 inch oscar and use a divider at feeding time, its so easily solved its really not even a problem.

Yeah I would be careful, is it better to put them in as adults? I know it's usually preferred at juveniles but because of the growth rates would this help?

Now he divides the tank? It thought it wasnt a problem to begin with

If it were my money i wouldnt try adding a juvie o and juvie ebjd. I wouldnt do that mix but if i did i would go with an adult.

Lots of other good suggestions take a look at them. I would love to own bocourti at some point, though i heard pearsei are more personable still think its an awesome fish

I think somewhere you said you would go 300 gal...your options are pretty much wide open. Viejas are beautiful lots of great ca's

Trimacs are stunners too highly aggressive from what i understand

I know they are not CA or SA cichlids but if you're going 300 gallons why not think in terms of a Aro or Dat. Both are great wet pets. Just throwing that out there.

Oscars growth rate is a myth now? Hahahahaha

Oscars have a healthy growth rate, but its turned into this silly myth that oscars will have these unfathomable growth spurts and its some kind of non-compatible scary menace. In the end its easily dealt with through more common sense and less godzilla like panic.

I plan on adding a gold oscar with my ebjd, severum and chocolate. I just hope he doesnt burst my tank while Im at work, maybe I better lock the fish food cabinet just in case.

Since we're going on this route: 500gal and a giant gourami. Awesome wet pet!

I only mentioned 300 gallons because I saw the OP mention that size earlier in the thread.
