What is going on? My tank has gone out of control.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well you're on the right track, the first step is admitting you have a problem. j/k! Same here, one day I think I'm all that and the next I'm making a noob mistake. Practice makes perfect I guess! I'll be a true expert fishkeeper by the time they put me in a nursing home and take away my tanks.

I moved out all of the pleco's. I did have my first loss, a medusa pleco, the smallest fish in the tank. I also moved out one of the bluegills, because he has a cloudy eye, so he is being treated. The AC 110 should be here tomorrow according to the tracking number.

Update. My Rena came today! Mini-christmas like feeling with a big box waiting for me. I love this new filter! The tank has been getting better, with about 1/3 of the fish moved out.

Yeah, I got my AC110 too, but part of the intake tube is broken. It is split laterally along the upside-down "U" part, which lets air bubble in. I put some tank silicone on it and got most of the leak plugged, so the filter functions. It is just not running at quite full capacity as air still gets in. I'll write the company today to see if they can hook me up with a new part.

The tank is looking great now, a lot of brown algea starting since I took the plec's out. Ammonia tests as not registrable.

So the filtration on the tank now consists of HOT Mag, Magnum 350, Xp3, AC110, and a sponge powerhead. I moved the cascade over to my jag tank.

Good news and bad news, the ID shark that I thought was a goner is doing great, he's healed up well and acting normal. My pike died today, no apparent reason, he was eating yesterday morning, then later in the day I found him upside down struggling to live. I moved him to QT and medicated him, but it was too late, he passed over night. I'll put pics up later.
