My other question about the Python is: How do you keep the temperature stable when filling the tank back up? Do you just feel the water before you fill?

Yep. Your skin is surprisingly accurate for checking the temperature. My temp usually doesn't even fluctuate a degree when doing big water changes.

I had a python for about 10 years before I lent it out and it came back broke. Just recently bought an Aqeoun. I believe the quality is a little higher then the Python but I can't complain considering the Python lasted so long.

I can't remember who posted it but there is a great DIY syphon for larger tanks on here somewhere. Larger hose, ball valves for quicker water changes for larger tanks. I'm ready to make one now myself, so I'll find it and repost it here.

i use my hose from outside, i just run water thru hose then turn it off and unscrew the hose and it starts syphoning

I like pythons, but DIY is always going to be cheaper. Nice length of tubing should get you going.

I got a python and would never go back, however i have never tried the aqueon though. One common complaint i heard about it was it wastes water by turning on the faucet while removing water. This is not really necessary. I just prime it like any siphon and let it run into the yard. Then it can be hooked up to the sink for filling. More economical most of our huge water bills. Horray for prepaid water in rent though.
