What is the biggest fish I could keep in a 200L tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Get some Pygmy perch and empires brother. Go down the local creek and catch some Galaxias pick up some Murray rainbows and you got a decent coldwater native tank. Moggies would murk anything in the tank they don’t like. If you wanna do tropics grabs some rainbows, empires, some perchlets and you’ll be sweet. Check out ANGFA for natives. I think you said you’re in vic so check it out. There’s a meeting in NSW this Saturday if your here.
I dont think anything lives in my local creek (gardiners creek) besides carp

Have a look around at other creeks if your up for it. Might have to do a bit of driving but you’ll find stuff eventually. ANGFA does field trips a couple times a year to good spots

That's bassically the only natural water way nearme besides the yarra but i'll look around. how do you catch galaxias i only know salt water and cod fishing haha

None of those fish can go in a 200 L tank for life. 200 L is roughly 55 gallons. You would need a minimum of 100 g for the adults and arguably more. You could grow them out temporarily, but you will need a much larger tank for the long term. If you don't believe me, check out my "Green Terror in a 55-Gallon" thread. These folks here talked me out of that idea quickly, lol.
oops i guess my sources are not trustable

Others have already picked up on this poor stocking advice. Although you recommend only one fish for that tank, a 200 litre is still too small for any of those fish long term.

The advice in this thread is aimed at an impressionable 14 year old so it is only correct that we sway them away from any of those four cichlids.

I am very sorry for my previous recommendations, that's something most fishkeepers should watch out for - untrustable sources.
I have revised my stocking options, so if we are still going with cichlids, here's options:

1. Thorichthys sp.
2. Convict cichlids
