I keep hearing about wal mart pillow batting as filter floss? Am I correct if so what do I use. I need some of that cheap filter floss stuff that is safe :)

Yep, that's the stuff. It's CHOMPERS tested, single mother approved.

Try out the quilt batting too. It's good stuff in drip trays and reusable HOB cartridges. They have two types; thick and thin. You want the thick stuff.

doesn't it get clogged pretty quick though? is it ok to just rinse it out with tank water or do you suggest putting new in?

It does get clogged rather easily, but i swap it for new stuff every three days or so. It works wonders in drip trays!

Yes it does but it filters out fine particles really well and its cheap @ $3.50/bag. That bag is stuffed too, not like the overpriced junk they try and sell you at the LFS for like $8 a bag that has probably a 1/4 of what the wal mart bag has in it.

Do you put it on top of the drip plate or beneath it?

Quilt batting FTW! I always put it under the tray... Mech filtration should always be bigger to smaller.

Oh, and you do not need to swap it out for new. I reuse it and I am still on the same bag I bought 4 months ago! Even with a 75g tank, 2 10gallon tanks, and a 400g pond using it.

Best stuff in the world. I use the thin stuff rubberbanded around the intakes to my filters when I add new sand and I have clear water in 2 days! I do not even take the time to wash the sand, just use quilt batting and viola!
