yes I know there is a big difference with red belly and a black piranha. red belly are more rounder and blacks no so.

but I am confused as to a red throat to a black piranha, both have same body shape. and the red throat I saw today look very much like my fish even though my fish I brought is consider to be a black piranha from the person who sold it to me.

I noticed this fish gotten a bit aggressive over time, like if I move my hand next to the tank, he would take notice and react to it. not sure if red throat or sanchezi is like that.

Oh red throat...as in ruby red throat piranha, as in spilo CF, as in Serrasalmus sanchezi. That's why I always use scientific names.

I thought you were mispronouncing red belly.

Its very easy to distinguish S. sanchezi from S. rhombeus. You need to examine the scutes on the bottom. If they're regular and orderly it's not a sanchezi, if they're irregular it's a sanchezi. Simple...

I don't know how to examine the scutes on the bottom. and I don't know what you mean by regular and orderly, could you provide some pics or pics from google to show me. And you can't view my pics, I don't know why you can't, so you are pretty much saying a black piranha can have red under it's body and gills at 5 inches??

look here, rhombeus (aka black piranha). you can see the scutes are nice and smooth and uniform. that's what Coop meant by regular and orderly.

here's sanchezi's scutes, you can see the shape and size and spacing are all random.

is very hard to look at my fish and see that. is like you need a microscope to see it, I still can't tell by look at it.

yes he does look like that, I found out today when I went to the pet store and saw a bunch of fish that is like that which is similar to mine and they name it on the tank as red throat. So I suspect that is what my fish is, and now I thought about it, the person who sold it to me say is black piranha, how can I trust them.

oh man, sorry to hear about that they sold you the wrong fish. see if you can go back and complain about it to the owner and return the fish if you really don't want it.
if you like it then just keep it, but still go complain so they can educate their employees, at least they need to know what the heck they are selling.
