What is the easiest floating plant?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
do u have a CO2 system of some sort or are u relying on the fish for that. if you have a system i dont think it will be a problem. most plants dont even need CO@. it just used for better, faster, healthier growth. if you use an air stone on your filters it wont aggitate the surface as much.;)

Hornwort is a good low-light floating plant, and does wonders for nitrates.

I've had great luck with it in my tank; good fish load, no CO2, and massive surface agitation (sump returns about 7x all pointed at the surface). It also looks much better and greener than I thought it would. I really wasn't the hornwort type, until I tried it, grin.

All I do is prune it (every other week) and add traces.

another cool easy floater is red rooter. i dont know if its called something else.

hornwort eh? i checked out a nice LFS and they didn't have duckweed, so i hit up petsmart since i was pretty sure they'd have something common like that...nope, but they have hornwort. What kind of stuff are you dosing? what about light?

i'll just have normal flourescent and i'll perhaps dose some sort of plant fert if it helps out a lot....so far most of my plants haven't really turned out very well besides a couple that i ended up throwing out for some stupid reason.

Seachem Florish will work good.i sopose the flourescents are t-8 or t-10. how many watts are the bulbs. if you can find 6700k full spectrum bulbs there best. hagen make a bulb called Life Glo 2. go to a green house that dose pons. they should have some duck weed. at the green house i work at we give it away free.

ok greenhouse duckweed, gotcha!

well ill have i think around 15 watts per 10 gallon tank and my 29 has a 20 watt and the 55 has a 32 watt 2700 lumens bulb.

i'll pick up a combination of what you guys have said along with some flourish and see which one works best for me.

Well today i finally picked up a couple bunches of hornwort and some API Leaf zone. Hopefully it grows quickly and i can put some in all of my tanks as i love the look and fish seem to like some floating plants. Any tips on really making it float at the top? some of mine seems to sink and just go wherever it wants.
