a very good one i have tried out and still have is phyllantus fluitans it is slow growing and the old leafs die of slowly too very great plant and awesome looking too
hmm i'm already getting a little bit of die off and some needles floating around, but the water they were in was slightly frozen when i got them home so that was expected. I dosed some leaf zone and they are hopefully going to be doing good under 15watts of light in a 10 gallon tank.
I'm also hoping to pick up some duckweed whenever i see some and some java moss or guppy grass.
Elodea/Anacharis (same plant) grows like a weed even in very low light. In thick clumps it looks great but when you have it spread out everywhere, it looks trashy.
I haven't done anything for my Anacharis weed and in a month I've had to prune the one in my main tank .
I put the cuttings in my livebearer tank with the frill plants for(potential) fry to hide in last week they have branched already. My main also has a sword plant or two both types seem fine without any help at all except the light of course and the Anacharis weed will grow at the surface when it reaches the top of the water.
It also doesn't seem to mind floating I have one piece my poly wont leave be so I left it floating and it still grows just not as fast
Another plant you can try is water sprite. There are several varieties and they can be grown floating or planted. They multiply quite readily and as they are larger than duckweed are not a headache to remove
