mine are currently 10", bought them shortly after christmas at less then an inch long. theyve grown well over the average rate. normally they grow about 1.5-2.5" a month

I saw a 30 inch one in a 220 gallon tank at a pet store once and this guy made the 220 like like a 20 gallon. The pet store owner said he was watching him while his owner was in the process of moving and buying him a bigger thank so that must have been one monster tank he was buying.
BEWARE!!! they will need at LEAST a 350 gallon tank before 4yrs is up i have had mine for that long i will post pics as soon as i figure out how lol he is now in a 180 gallon tank and is 2 1/2 feet long its hard for him to turn the last month his upper fine had tail have lengthend and has lots of power he wants to swim fast badly and he is very mild and shy to strangers lol love family and kids think cause there small, they dont have a growth rate really they just grow like a kid doesnt matter what size tank you have them in THEY DO NOT GROW TO ENVIOURMENT!!! they refure to them like dogs they like to b pet but only as hes gotton bigger and older has that started but ive seen a special on them and when the scientist got into the water the would come and rub on his legs they are only documented up to 3 1/2 feet theres not much study on them after that. my pacu Buddy eats lots of stuff loves bacon cat treats and shrimp and sum wierd reason caned ham every site says there something else like most say vegitarian so untrue each one diff he hates lettece and pinapple he like alge waffers 2 snack on and worms loves worms but he gets picky and get tired of same thing so i eat and give him sum 2 just like a dog lol they teethe he looses a tooth comes in a day later he still has small teeth but they end up with teeth that look like ours if u ever seen a pic. he plays peek a boo with me and sometimes chases me from one side to another when i vaccum i have a alge eater with him a pleco who is now like almost 2 feet as well found out he like food 2 comes to each every time i feed Buddy.I've removed any big things from tank he loves the airfilter bubbles bubbles helps keep tank clean.Rite now im looking for a 350 gallon tank or sad to say a new home for my dear friend, i dont want to part with but he geting depressed and has injured his nose has a cut down it just 3days ago and the water he splashes out the tank threw the hood cause he has to much power now. IF ANYONE HAS A LARGER TANK THAN 350 GALLONS AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE COMPANY FOR THERE PACU CONTACT ME PLEASE!!!! AND ALWAYS BEWARE FISH STORES LIE!!!
I have to say Pacus are my favorite fish. I have 4 and I always rescue them from small tanks. I am working on buying a 500gl tank for them.
THEY LOOK SO CUTE RIGHT NOW WITH THEIR LITTLE TEETH RIGHT NOW THEIR IN A 75G WITH 6 OSCARS 6 BUMBLEE BEE CONVICTS 2 MARBLED CONVICTS 2 BLACK CONVICTS 6 GREEN TERROR 7 JACK DEMPSEYS AND 2 COMMON PLECO BUT WILL BE GETTING A 180G IN A MONTH OR SO SORRY NEWBIE HERE MY BF IS THE ONE WHO KNOWS AND HE'S ON A BUSINESS TRIP RIGHT NOW OUR OTHER TANK ISA A 327G SOUTH AMERICAN CICHLID TANK
FYI Pacu growth rate is notorious FAST, 1 inch cute pacu look in the LFS will become a monster look 10~12 inches less than a year! Even a staff (clean up crew) in a public Aquarium admited that they can see the different (grow rate) of a large Pacu EVERYDAY lol.
Also, if you don't plan to eat your own fishes after 6 months then better return it now cause it's very hard to rehome those pacus when they are out grow your tiny cup of water tank.
