What is the least aggressive Bichir?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ropefish you mean? Don't they get more than 2 foot long?

I love how Ornates look but I don't think I'll risk it. I'd prefer some peace of mind that none of my fish are about to get murdered at night lol.

yes, ropefish, they get long but their mouths dont get any bigger so they dont even have the potential to do much harm.

I think I may have seen some ropefish in my LFS. I'll check it out later. Thanks!

There's not much poly selection that's available to me locally. So I may end up buying either online or from another MFKer. Jeff Raps has some polys that I'm interested in.

Has anyone ever kept an ansorgii and palmas ‘Buettikoferi’? How are they in terms of aggression?

Sorry for the double post but now I have a question about a Palmas ‘Buettikoferi’. Not sure if you guys are familiar with Jeff Raps but he just replied back to me and said he did have some ‘Buettikoferi’ in stock. I may just go with that instead of a Del, since I'm having trouble finding either a small 2-3" to go with my BGK or a big 8"+ to go with my Oscar.

Anyway, my question is, in terms of activeness and aggressiveness - how would you rate a Palmas ‘Buettikoferi’? Would they work well in my 150g with my current stock?

Sorry for all the question, guys. I still have a lot to learn about Polys.

do u have sand in your 150 gallon if not get some.. And if u get a polypterus palmas buettikoferi make sure its not to small to get eaten by the Oscar...

No worries, I do have sand as my substrate. Jeff said the buettikoferi is around 8"-10". I think that should be safe for my Oscar. Would you consider them as active and peaceful as a Del though? How's their growth rate btw?

Oh and, Jeff also has a Polypterus Ansorgii that's around the same size. I might get both or just the Buettikoferi. What do you think?

Out of all the bichirs i have the only one that eats the smaller fish from time to time is my weeksii lost 2 blue body loaches to him..... But all the rest stick to each other no problems...
