What is the perfect size tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
anything is a good starter. It's also good to suggest that bigger tanks are easier, because they are:) There is more volume which keeps things from changing too quickly.

It seems logical when you post on a forum called MonsterFishKeepers that the beginners tank would start at 75 gallons and several believe the first tank really needs to be 150 gallons in the 5 foot X 2 foot X 2 foot configuration. So with that being said, my next adventure is finding the perfect area in my house to create, display and exhibit the 150 in such a way as to educate and entertain my firiends and visitors. hmm or perhaps 6 feet long would be better since it is my second tank.

I am begining to agree that buying the 55 gallon is like buying a 19 inch TV. It is just big enough for the Bedroom, but gets lost in the average Living Room/Florida Room, or Den.

When you start figuring on a 240 Gallon, what are the major concerns over the 150 gallon option? My floor is solid concrete/Ceramic Tile.:stingray:

My starter was 55 gallons. Time to Grow.

I started with a 10g starter kit and now I have a 320g and it's beginning to look small. For me the best tank is the biggest one I can fit in the house (I'd have a pond in the basement if it was big enough).

If you are doing the tank maintance then bigger is better. If I am doing the tank maintance then a 55 will do. Why because one 5 gallon bucket is almost a 10% water change and all tanks need water changes.

I reckon the perfect size tank is the next one i'm getting. at least i hope it will be! My 175 is too much hard work for cleaning, but great for my monster, my 47G is too small. I think a 6 foot 110g will be perfect!

Either go big or...by a mantis shrimp

Thats my motto

really tho 55 is a good start. Easy enough to filter maintain and do water changes on

I absolutely hate 55 gallon tanks, I don't understand why they are so popular. The dimensions don't have any visual appeal, and they're awkward looking tanks. They're too narrow for any reasonable size fish and they leave no room for proper decoration. I prefer a tank that is a minimum 18" front to back, so I think 40 or 50 gallon breeders or 75 gallon standards make better beginner tanks than 55's.
My favorite semi-big tank though is a standard 180, give fish room to move, plenty of space for decoration and not overwhelming to clean and maintain.
