What is the smartest CA/SA cichlid? In your opinion??

I would say from personal experience, Oscar's are number 1, my Red Devil twins are numbers 2 and 3 and my Green Texas is number 4. All super smart fish, and real glass bangers too.

With the amph comment.
I have a trimac and a RD/Midas.
They are both very interacitve and entertaining.

i agree midas madness.. my jag is intelligent cause he knows me.... and is happy when he sees me.. anyone else and he starts flaring up
That sounds like my old Midas, he would do the same thing. He'd come up to the corner to eat from me or attack anybody else if they got near...

My Cuban was, and my Midas is very owner responsive. Maybe it's intelligence maybe it isn't but I think certain fish are quicker to understand and associate us with food and eventually trust that we are not predators.. For example a Grammode or festae may beg for food but when you're cleaning the tank it goes off to hide. My midas doesn't do that neither did the small oscars that I kept in the past. They weren't nervous when I had my hands in the tank at all.

This question is a bit silly, all fishes act on instinct, and any fish can be trained to beg for food which many times is mistaken as "greeting" them, hell you can train a gold fish to "greet" you.
