That's what I do... Everyone has their own way of cycling. But yes, cycling in completely- even if it's seeded filter- is the best option. It ensures the fishes safety.

You can get a full freshwater API drop test kit for $25. Do NOT buy the strips.. they are JUNK, and are almost never accurate.
