what is this?

You put your contaminated fish into native waters...and that's wrong. Communicable diseases are not gonna argue...fish like that ruin ecosystems when they transmit diseases from the tropics.

Going a little overboard aren't you? He didn't take a tropical fish and put it in an alien environment, he put a fish back into the lake he caught it from, and from what I can tell, it never even went into a tank, and was held in a bucket that contained water from the very lake he caught it in.

Still it is probably not the best idea, but to suggest he is going to ruin an ecosystem is beyond hyperbole. People buy live shiners all the time at bait stores, and no one ever screams at them when they use them in a lake or pond, how is this any worse?

thx u! thats exactly what happened. they never made it to a tank for them to get diseases. they sat in there own natural water from the lake in a clean bucket. i completely agree if i took my JD and tossed em in lake tahoe that would be a HUGE mistake.

so he put 5 fish in a CLEAN bucket full of THE LAKE'S WATER and released them THE NEXT DAY, he never put them in a tank, if you ask me he did that pretty responsibly. And it isn't like it is some endangered species, it is a fish that is spread almost everywhere in the united states, and thrive in almost any water. He came here asking how to care for a common little fish and fisher automatically flames him. And I know fisher's comeback to this will be something about the salmon

Seriously, no harm no foul. All these Internet tough guys calling out regulations and saying you may have ruined the ecosystem...LOL common now. I feel you Dempsey, but that's how these forums roll, there will always be the guy who has to try and make you feel like he's the Great and powerful ruler of the message boards. People like that online are Totally irresponsible....

I agree. Your right regardless of what anyone has to say on both points.

Glad to see at least one person has my back.

Geez guys...The kid didn't know and it's already done.
Should we tie up the noose and hang him now??

Was it still the wrong thing to do? Yes.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse....

Wow...another kid with no respect for the law takes the op's side...he came on here and told us how he illegally took live fish from the wild, then illegally released those same fish back into the wild...and I'm the bad guy for pointing that out?

Lol I'm an "internet tough guy?" All I did was point out that he broke TWO laws....sure that makes me "tough" lol and since I know the laws, I'm totally irresponsible....

I agree that it seems there wasn't any real harm done here, so let's not get all up in arms over it.

Josh H

There may not have been any real harm done in this situation, but regardless the op broke at least two laws....laws that are in place to protect our ecosystems. Unlike some of the people on this forum, I respect our natural resources and it bothers me to see someone jeopardizing them.

^this come from a poster who kept undersized salmon and is in hurry to have monster fish in the pond before researching on these fish.

Speaking of laws, there was a member from California got fines for breaking regulations.

There's the salmon post. lolol

Ignorance of the law is no excuse....

You're right...It isn't, but why should anyone have to excuse themselves from your scolding? No one is saying you are wrong or taking sides...

We are simply saying you don't have to be a unprovoked douche to tell someone that they did the wrong thing. I'm not calling you names or anything, just stating the obvious.

Let's dumb this down. I am a little kid and I catch a minnow in a cup, then I dump him back into the water. That's exactly what he did, but on a larger scale. I think you know that your logic was flawed, and now that you know you are losing the battle you are trying to act like the good guy.

it is as sunfish but it is a warmouth
