Hemichromis Elongatus, 5 spot jewel.
Pound for pound the toughest cichlid you
can get. although they only reach about 5 to 6 inches.
I had one for 4 years, called him SATIN!!!

You named it after a lustrous material because of his color? Or, was his name Satan like the ruler of hell because he was a belligerant cuss?

Madagascar is part of Africa....maybe I'm thinkin of a different jewel..hold up....

Oh, come on, give me a brake man, I know where madagascar is

I'm pretty sure that most well known cichlid from madagascar is the paratilapa poleni. I think it was recently determined that there are two fish that were called poleni and have named a second fish. Something like one has tiny spots and the other has larger spots.

THe true giant fresh water lobster is austrailian. THe only place it is found is Tazmainia :D

Man I'm a smart *ss , to quote Triumph the insult dog " I keed - I keed"

wow thats good news to me. =)

It already is eating. I fed him some catfish meat last night. Too bad he wont get much bigger, I think he is already around 5" or so.

As far as I know there are different types of cichlids in that lake, Ive even heard of jaguar's being in there. there is lots of tilapia, red devils, oscars, I swear I saw a big Koi (coulda been a red devil, but if it was it must have been over 18" long), there are Oscars, Bass (small mouth, large mouth, tucanary), bluegills, catfish, carp, I have heard that there are snakeheads also... Im sure there is more, but I cant remember right now...

I have one that came out of a LFSs sump. they said it kills everything.... well it's a good fish in my 265gal tank.

It was that or the rest of his tankmates would have killed him.
