what is up with my female...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
she does lay alttile more flat, but she keeps her stomach off the bottom...she is still doing this...

i was reading in another thread that someone has had a 5" retic birth 2 pups...so i don't think it could be to far to say she is prego...any other thoughts...i really really really want her to be prego...i am keeping the lights off to help if it is stress though...just to be safe...

Not how a pregnant ray looks like. prego females look just like regular females except their stomach area eventually gets bigger and bigger and starts to move when its almost due. They dont start curling down like that. Is your male even mature yet? If hes not, then theres no point in even considering that shes pregnant or not.

the claspers look folded and have a crease in them...before they were just round...i think that is how the claspers look when mature...i saw a mature motoros claspers and it looks simmilar, just not as long...he has gotten big since i got him...i have seen some clear stringy stuff on a chunk of driftwood and comming from her... the males clasper looked like some slime coat was hanging off it end of last week... ...i have noticed the increase in attention givin from the male, increase in appitite, and this "curling"...she dosen't sit like that all the time...she has a solid backside and tail...the only thing i noticed that has me alittle concerned is that she didn't eat tonight...i think she ate this morning, but i wasn't watching i had to leave...idk if she caught something from some blackworms, prego or what....i added prazi pro just in case and i have the lights off...she is breathing slow to normal...

show a pic of the claspers on the male. if he is not mature then you might have something to worry about with stuff floating in the tank and stress coat coming off. and you said that you saw some white stuff coming from the female well that might be unhealthy poo.

all i have is a camera phone now so pics of the claspers would be impossible...if they are not fully rolled then they are midway atleast...they look like a pic i saw on here of a mature motoro male that was for sale...i added prazi pro and bumped the heat just to be safe and i am watching her close...she has had good poo ever since i had her...this will be her 4th prazi pro since i had her...no carbon in any of my tanks so it was not deluted...

i have only seen this when a ray is very stressed...

maybe the combination of my male being /getting mature and pestering her + the change from rocks to tile could be stressing her out to much?...i have the lights off to help the stress...could there be a chance that she is stressed from breeding in combination with all this? they have been way close about a week or two before i changed the tile witch that change was maybe a week ago if that...how long till she will show if she is prego in combination with all this? if she isn't that last one will help out for future referance...

Quite possible as well. Even if she was not pregnant yet, there have been many instances where the nearly mature male starts bothering the female. This could be the source of the stress. Since you already seperated the 2 rays, just wait and see if your female stops curling.
