What is up with the universe?

some pick their favorite fish.. some pick their favorite colors in the pic.. some pick something unusual, some pick for total clarity and stunningness.. some pick for the expression of the fish..gleam in the eye..big mouth.. smile etc....some just pick because they cannot decide... there are all kinds of reasons to like a picture ..ask any artist... i try my best to go for the picture itself... the camera skills... but sometimes a picture can just be magnificient in other ways... like the shot itself.. one in a million shot... everyone has their own likes and dislikes... and thats why the total vote is the one...

This post sums it up well IMO. We all have different tastes in photos. Clarity/focus is only part of the equation IMO. For me I scroll down the list and only choose between the pics that jump out at me.

i think that eye shot showed a ton of emotion. a 5 year old could get an unfocused shot of a fish swimming in a tank. anyone with a cell phone could. boring... but that eye shot on the other hand is something that is rare to see with the naked eye. well done my friend...

You need to get over it man. It is not that big a deal and claiming your pic is better than everyone elses is not going to win you any friends. Is it a good, well focused pic? Yes. Do I think it is boring? Once again, yes. I have not looked at the potm in months if not years, but I would have to say I would not vote for your pic.

Yes, you took a great pic. But I highly doubt that you were the only one. If it is not interesting to me, I have to say, no matter how good the pic is, I would not vote for it, and I am not sorry to say most people would likely do the same. All you can do is take several more shots and try again next month.

Him posting the other two pics mean he's saying that his is better than those two. "His blew away" Not everyone thinks this at all....me being one.

Sorry, I was distracted when I wrote this. I ment to say that most people would prob vote in a similar fashion, as in most people will not only vote for quality, but what they like.

I think it was very rude of him to post up other people pics and start claiming his was better. As we can see, the masses dont agree with that. Sorry to be the one to point that out. I am sorry to be a jerk about it, but to post that two of you are the only ones with photography sense is a bit jerkish as well. God knows I have entered potm in the past and lost, but at least I didnt go and complain about it to my peers who also entered some pretty damn good pictures. At least be a man about it, say congrats to those who deserve it and vow to try again next month. No point to cry about it.

To the op-
You have some great talent man, waaaay more than I had at your age. Keep trying! I know I never took anything that nice. Just give it another go and see what happens. Just find what the people like

He said LIKELY not everyone won't vote for it. Guess he's someone right because I wouldn't vote for it also.

OP like he said, just get over it. Just with the title "what is up with the universe" your obviously really really upset. If this is your biggest issue in the universe, then you have major problems.
