I woke up this morning to my male jack Dempsey with his mouth wide open. It doesn't look like he can shut it... I have no idea what's wrong, he was eating fine the night before.

My water parameters are
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrites: 0 ppm
Nitrates: <5ppm

I did a 40% water change and nothing new was introduced into the tank. He is in a 55 with some female BGJDs and festae grow outs.

Ur gonna have to check inside his mouth to see if you see something. This happened to my 10 inch jade goby years ago and he had a rock stuck in his throat. Thats my guess

Yeah, I agree with aquamonster. My JD was doing that a few years ago and she had part of a crayfish lodged in her mouth. It was a simple fix where I used curved hemostats to coax it out. I used aquarium airline tubing to cover the metal and a razor to smooth the edges of the tubing. Good luck with the fish.

tweezers would work. I would also take into thought that he may have broken his jaw by running into something. Ive heard of people forcing the fishes mouth shut before. But when my goby had this problem he only lasted about 12hrs... Good luck and sorry

How large is the fish? I got lucky and my fish is still swimming after her incident to this day.

My brother had the same problem. his fish did not have anything stuck in it mouth. The fish mouth just got stuck like that. He actually message it back and the fish was fine. I guest it can happen when they stretch there mouth.

He's a little over 6 inches. I just checked his mouth, doesn't seem to have anything lodged inside. I guess I could carefully put it's mouth back into place. But im more worried that it's a disease as opposed to an injury. I don't want to stress with if it's sick.
