what is your biggest accomplishment in keeping bichirs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
lol nice stories. i would have to say when i clean out my tanks from my smaller fish im not goin to put them in the bichir tank for even a couple secs. cause i still miss my Betta :( as soon as i put him in i heard a splash an the lil guy was gone

Creating a feeding contraption strictly for my 4 bichirs (2x Delhezi, 1x Ornate, 1x Endli). They were beginning to thin out after I got my florida gar and black arowana. The new fish coupled with my datnoid and pike cichlid meant that nothing made it to the bottom. It became literally impossible to feed my bichirs even tablets because my Aro loves them.

It's an extendable pole used for painting, but instead of a brush there is a piece of 4-direction PVC pipe screwed onto the end. In the middle of the PVC pipe is a chunk of styrofoam with four dull toothpicks sticking out into each pipe arm. I shove krill or whatever onto the toothpicks and submerge it. The pipe is of a size that only the bichirs can get at the food.

Now when I drop in the feeding-thing, the other fish think nothing of it while the bichirs all swim up to their little cubby holes and munch. The fish that have learned there is food there can't reach it (except the smaller bichirs obv.)

Free, convenient and is fattening my bichirs back up. I felt good for making it.

For me it's being able to create a display show tank with 50 bichirs that amaze my guests. Getting them eating pellets also making keeping bichirs more enjoyable.

Not sure if this counts but mine's traveling a round trip of nearly four hours for my first bichir which was a senegal as we have nowhere around here that sells them. Worth the trip though:)
Damn this is what I called passion to want a bichir!:headbang2
