I don't consider Jacks "mean" just food aggressive. Like a Oscar on a bigger and better weaponized fish. You probably know them better than I do, do you think they are mean or just really hungry? I consider "mean" to be a dovii type fish that will simply not allow tank mates, is the jack the same way?
LOL, they're hungry all the time yes, but also probably one of the meanest fish you can get. I used to have to push mine away with a net will I did water changes so he didnt mangle my hand.
I have personally seen a 30cm Jack absolutely destroy a 40cm Dovii, I mean like really give it to him. They just dont stop man, tankmates are a big no no. Even when they're 5cm long they WILL not and cannot live with anything without it resulting in carnage, unless the fish are a lot bigger, even then the jack will have a crack. There are a few exceptions, but they are usually the hatchery bred ones that arent as aggressive, but are still machines. The power in their jaws is incredible aswell, sounds like 2 planks of wood when they snap. They are just the toughest fish, even when I catch them in the rivers around here, ill cut its throat, bleed it out, scale it and gut it and it will still be kicking and gills moving. I **** you not. Lutjanus is my favourite genus of fish, nothing can compare. I've seen them eat lures 2/3rds the size of them aswell.
