What is your favorite CA/SA cichlid and why?

Yep, I know. lol

Its tough to find that perfect tank mix and over the years Ive pretty much become a bichir guy so the cichlids have been whittling down to just the calmest easiest going of the bunch.

Yeah thats pretty much where I am at right now.

Feedings are where the limitations are. Polys are veeeeeery slow eaters thats where most of the problems are with cichlids and polys as tankmates. Things might be all cute when they are all small but once the cichlids get to a decent size half the food is gone before the polys even start moving around. Then your overfeeding to get some food to the polys, now water quality takes a hit, finally ur upping the wcs to keep up.

I'd stick to cichlids that lean towards a herbivorous diet or arent known for being gluttonous

Yeah i never really thought about that so much but it makes a lot of sense. I know back when i had my tank set up i had to feed twice as much because the Geos would grab the pellets before any of the polys got to it. thats probably why my nitrates stayed in the 15-25 with weekly 75% water changes.
