I just feed mines mostly pellets and smelt from the grocery store. I occasionally give them treats like crickets and mealworms but that only when I get the chance to goto the LFS.

I like most types of live bait fish from bait shops and have never had a problem but if given the choice I buy live smelt or anchovies to feed freshwater fish as there are fewer diseases that will make the transfer from one to the other. I gut load with tetramin color enhancing flake food, spirolina, nori, wheat germ, and dried bonito flakes. Works for small lizards and snakes as well.Hasi said:My lates calcarifier doesn't take frozen bloodworms...
The whitebait from tackle shops, the one that sells as fish bait, i hear that they are not 'clean' and should not be fed to our beloved fishes, instead the ones sold at aquariums are the way to go - what do you guys think about this?
Anyone breeding their own crickets/insects? If so what do you guys gutload them with to get them healthy for your fish? I know carrots is a good source
