They are pricey because they are or pretty much extinct in the wild and hardly breed in captivity. Lucky for you that your LFS got some.

Not many rare things. I suppose maybe my nothobranchius ranchovii (killifish) is quite rare. Now some of you would argue that this catfish is cheap and common but I spent over 100$ on them and I waited half a YEAR for my lfs to order them. Cuckoo catfish. Also not really rare but wild caught tiger shrimp. And discus. Oh, and this AMAZING freshwater goby I found, believe their a rhinogobius but species is unkown. And I forgot the name but I 'think' it was flamegreen tetra, or redgreen tetra, etc I forgot exactly. Ummm, idk someone else I'm missing here...

Not rare in the wild but rare in the hobby. I have a 6 Laetacara dorsigera. I also have 13 F1 Lamprologus ocellatus and some F1 Swordtails.
